Flanked by downtown, Balboa Park, and the city’s historic barrios, it’s easy to overlook Golden Hill. However, those taking the last exit on the 94 or venturing up the notoriously steep B Street incline will discover a nice, laidback pocket in the heart of the city. New York-style pizza reigns supreme at this pie shop. Walk in for a couple slices with your favorite toppings and a pint. Pizzeria Luigi also does carryout, though downing two slices and a drink in the back patio just hits a little different.

Dark Horse jumped into the ice cream game with the opening of Mutual Friend last year, showing the roasters aren’t a one trick pony. You’ll find more than plain vanilla and chocolate here, with flavors including raspberry ricotta, double chocolate chip cookie dough, and Dark Horse coffee, in a nod to its parent business next door.
