Where to Eat in Golden Hill
There’s something for everyone in this central neighborhood
Influx’s Broadway location set the pace for Golden Hill’s renewal in the early aughts with its design-oriented digs. Today, you can still grab your locally roasted coffee or a fresh-made pastry anytime of day.
2. Kabob House
This unassuming strip mall joint brings a bit of variety to the neighborhood, with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern fare done the right way. Pita, gyro, and skewers come in single or combo meals and fragrant rice plus tabbouleh.
3. Turf Supper Club
Tap into your inner grillmaster at this classic watering hole featuring indoor cooking pits. Orders range from simple skewers to full 16-ounce prime cuts. If tending to raw meat isn’t your thing, the well made cocktails and solid beer list are reason enough to come in.
Counterpoint was among the first to bring a contemporary flair to the South edge of Golden Hill with its focused on American classics and comfort food made with high-quality ingredients. While the eats are excellent, the cocktails don’t lag behind. A good selection of craft beer and wine will also keep your whistle wet.
5. Pizzeria Luigi
New York-style pizza reigns supreme at this pie shop. Walk in for a couple slices with your favorite toppings and a pint. Pizzeria Luigi also does carryout, though downing two slices and a drink in the back patio just hits a little different.

6. Mutual Friend Ice Cream
Dark Horse jumped into the ice cream game with the opening of Mutual Friend last year, showing the roasters aren’t a one trick pony. You’ll find more than plain vanilla and chocolate here, with flavors including raspberry ricotta, double chocolate chip cookie dough, and Dark Horse coffee, in a nod to its parent business next door.
7. Golden Hill Cafe
Classic breakfast made with love and as many coffee refills as your system can handle bestow staying power to this neighborhood institution, even amid today’s constant change. Fans of 90’s sitcom “Full House” should keep an eye out for the signed John Stamos head shot.
8. Humberto's Taco Shop
San Diego, CA 92102
Open 24 hours a day and known beyond the neighborhood for excellent burritos, Humbertos deserves a place among your go-to spots for taco shop fare. Those set in their ways might be hesitant, but the constant flow of faithful regulars ordering burritos and roll tacos is a testimony to quality.
9. 55 Thai Kitchen Golden Hill
Tucked inside the back of a liquor store, this counter-style Thai spot slings decently sized portions of curry or noodles with your choice of protein. As delicious as the classic curries are, the spicy basil chicken and special massaman curry stand out. Vegetarian options are available.
You can find all things Philly at Giorgino’s. Pork rolls, chicken parm, hot subs and, of course cheesesteaks, are all here and all stuffed inside Italian-style rolls. If that wasn’t enough, Wise Brand potato chips and TastyKakes snacks are also available, so even sides and desert are true to Philadelphia tradition.
