Where to Eat on Coronado
Old and new favorites around The Crown City
Helmed by executive chef JoJo Ruiz, The Del just unveiled its new coastal concept Serẽa. With a focus on local, sustainable seafood the day’s catch, which ranges from spot prawns and sea urchin to whole rock cod, is displayed at the raw bar. Open for dinner nightly and lunch on Saturday, there’s a wide selection of appetizers too, from beef carpaccio to lobster croquettes and patatas bravas.
2. Little Frenchie
Francophiles will love this chic new Parisian style bistro and its culinary ode to Provençe – think escargot, steak frites, fromage, plus French beers and wines. Leading the kitchen is executive chef Matt Sramek who worked under Thomas Keller at Bouchon in Beverly Hills. Now open early on the weekends there’s a morning menu until 11 a.m. then lunch, happy hour at 3 p.m. followed by a dinner menu from 5 to 9 p.m.
With a killer selection of fresh pastries, croissants, and scones – plus bistro classics like charcuterie and pâté plates – Tartine has been a staple for islanders since 2001. And while it’s a cozy café by day, come evening it’s the perfect place to BYOB (although the boutique wine list here is stellar), and relax on the patio with one of the daily specials, which can range from beef stroganoff to a pan-roasted sea bass.
Harbor views don’t get much better than on the patio at this Coronado classic, which has a solid selection of Pacific Rim inspired dishes and sushi offerings across its lunch and dinner menus. Brunch is served every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and there are some great deals during happy hour too (Monday through Friday, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.) including $6 pulled pork sliders and $7 ahi poke tacos.
5. Saiko Sushi
With owners committed to sourcing sustainable fish, the sushi here is top-notch. Catch San Diego skyline views from the patio will sipping micro-brewed sakes or try a tasting flight while digging into maki rolls, nigiri and other assorted bites including gyoza, steamed buns, and vegetable tempura from the kitchen. There’s a daily happy hour (4:30 to 6:30 p.m.) which runs all night on Mondays.

6. Coronado Brew Pub
Seize the day with a sunrise skillet or whip up a Benedict from the dedicated station during breakfast at Coronado’s first beach town brewpub. During the weekday happy hour (Tuesday through Friday from 2 to 6 p.m.) enjoy pub favorites like Spanglish fries, calamari, and buffalo strips for $10 or less per dish. Pair with seasonal releases like the citrus-forward Peach Cruiser or New England-style IPA North Island.
7. Clayton's Coffee Shop
An island staple since 1941, while this retro diner serves food until 10 p.m., nothing beats pulling up a cherry red barstool at the counter for coffee and an all-American breakfast. Short-stacks, huevos rancheros, and chicken waffles are some of their most popular dishes. On the sweeter side, there’s a homemade granny smith apple pie alongside several milkshakes, malts and soda floats.
8. Miguel's Cocina
Back in business after a fire earlier this year, Miguel’s is making visitors and locals alike happy once more with fresh-juice margaritas and their award-winning chips and salsa (cheese sauce on the side). Nestled in the courtyard of El Cordova Hotel the hidden gem patio here is an excellent sit-down spot for classic Mexican and flavorful house plates like grilled swordfish tacos, lobster quesadillas, and birria de res.

This homegrown San Diego mini-chain, which also has outposts in Imperial Beach and Liberty Station, serves up fresh, healthy, and flavorful Hawaiian style proteins from seafood and free-range chicken to vegan tofu in classic bowl format alongside “norittos” (a nori seaweed burrito of sorts), and “waves” (small U-shaped taco-like creations in seaweed wrappers).
10. Feast and Fareway
The Coronado Golf Course just opened its new eatery, whose floor-length windows afford views over the green and Coronado Bridge. A standout dish from the menu, which covers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, is the duck mac & cheese. Grab an Augusta Azalea cocktail (hibiscus-infused Monkey Shoulder Whiskey, pineapple and vanilla puree, lemon and Antica Formula) and head to the patio.
11. Stake Chophouse & Bar
For that special occasion or just because dinner, Stake only serves the best of the best when it comes to filets, chops and dry-aged prime steak. There’s an award-winning wine list too along with fresh seafood selections that include east and west coast oysters. Executive chef Andrew Kedziora’s newest dish is a Snake River Farms Wagyu filet mignon with Alaskan king crab, asparagus, and caviar spiked Hollandaise.
12. MooTime Creamery
When it comes to ice cream on Coronado head to Orange Avenue’s 1950s-inspired parlor and cool down with a waffle cone. Hand-crafted ice cream, yogurts, and sorbets made from scratch are a specialty at this locally owned and operated spot which also does a great line of sundaes, moopies and mootacos.
This handsome coastal Italian boasts an indoor-outdoor cocktail bar and lounge with lovely views over Orange Avenue. Chef Ronnie Schwandt’s pasta-making skills are on show in the dedicated pasta kitchen, where fresh pastas and bread are housemade daily, while shellfish, oysters, and other ocean treasures that feature in the restaurant’s crudo plates and seafood platters are showcased on the 8-foot raw bar. The bottomless Sunday brunch serves up everything from Maine Lobster Mafaldine to Italian donuts.
14. Leroy's Kitchen and Lounge
The long-standing local favorite specializes in farm-to-table gastro style eats that take diners from lunch and happy hour through to dinner. Highlights from executive chef Ronnie Schwandt’s menu include the housemade charcuterie board, Black Sheep Farms strawberry salad, and Salt Spring Island mussels. San Diego microbrews are championed too with a range of on-tap options and craft beer flights.
15. Primavera Ristorante
Coronado’s beloved family-owned and operated restaurant, which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, just introduced new items to its summer entrées, happy hour, dessert, and cocktail menus. There’s a tagliatelle Adriatico with fresh tomatoes, shrimp and scallops and a portobello mushroom-stuffed ravioli with sun-dried tomato and a dill cream sauce. Every Thursday Primavera runs a date night special too that includes two entrées and two glasses of wine for $60 per couple.

16. Swaddee Thai
Some say the best Thai food on the island. Traditionalists will not be disappointed with staples like the panang and massaman curries, pad see ew, larb salad, or pineapple fried rice at this casual but cheery eatery, which offers diners a heat-index of 5+ so dishes can be customized according to preferred spice levels.
