An expansive new restaurant and sports bar offering a high-tech game-watching experience opens Thursday, January 11 at the Mission Valley mall. It’s the first venture outside of the South Bay for NOVO Brazil Brewing Company which was founded in 2015 and has a flagship location in Chula Vista and outposts in Imperial Beach and the Otay Ranch Mall.
NOVO Mission Valley emerges in the 11,500-square-foot space last occupied by Tilted Kilt and around the corner from the former home of Seau’s, the namesake restaurant of legendary San Diego Chargers linebacker Junior Seau.
Spanning an 8,000-square-foot dining room, a 40-seat bar, and a 3,500-square-foot patio set with fire pits, the restaurant will serve NOVO Brazil’s menu of classic bar fare like chicken wings and jalapeno poppers alongside Brazilian dishes ranging from empanadas and chicken croquettes to skewers of Brazilian sausage and prime sirloin. Its 64 taps will be stocked with NOVO’s entire beverage line, which extends to beer, kombucha, beer cocktails, and hard seltzers. Special beers will be produced from an on-site microbrewery, which will also be used to let guests brew their own beers.
With connections to local sports teams, from SDSU Aztecs to San Diego Wave FC, NOVO Brazil is positioning the venue as a family-friendly establishment that is decidedly serious about game viewing. There are large-scale video walls, TV screens, and surround sound speakers throughout the space, which has been programmed with moving lights and CO2 blasts that will go off when the home teams score. Open daily at noon, the restaurant and bar will open early for select games, from SDSU men’s basketball to football.
Now that the brewery has expanded out of the South Bay, a rep shared that the company is also interested in opening a location somewhere in North County.
