An ambitious restaurant that landed on La Jolla Boulevard last fall is among the latest additions to the Michelin Guide’s California selection of restaurants. Paradisaea, which opened in September 2022 in Bird Rock, is the only San Diego establishment to be singled out this time around, along with three in Los Angeles and three in San Francisco.

As part of Michelin’s system of releasing “culinary gems” throughout the year, Paradisaea will be highlighted in the guide as a new and recommended restaurant. It’s also now eligible to earn Bib Gourmand or even Michelin star status at California’s Michelin Guide ceremony in 2024.

Just last month, Paradisaea announced major personnel changes, replacing founding executive chef Mark Welker with Jeff Armstrong who helped launch Artifact at the Mingei, which was also designated by Michelin as a “new discovery” earlier this year.
