Here’s a bit of good news: Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘N Waffles is truly coming to San Diego. Rumors of Roscoe’s expansion here first swirled in in 2016 and were subsequently confirmed, but the project stalled in 2017. Eater has now learned that the soul food specialists have finally resumed construction in Barrio Logan at 1678 National Avenue on a 17,489-square-foot lot that will feature a 4,000-square-foot restaurant plus parking.

Adolfo Moreno of Terra Nova Realty handled the original sale of the property to Roscoe’s founder Herb Hudson, and tells Eater that the restaurant is working towards a projected January 2022 opening.

Hudson launched the iconic food chain in 1975, and the Barrio Logan restaurant will join the company’s other popular SoCal locations that stretch from Long Beach to Hollywood. Anchored by its famous chicken and waffles, including the three-wing Obama’s Special, the Roscoe’s menu features other Southern classics like smothered chicken and biscuits, fried chicken livers, red beans and rice, and mac and cheese.
