Global burger behemoth Shake Shack, which first arrived in San Diego in 2017 starting with a location at Westfield UTC and subsequently opened outposts in Mission Valley, One Paseo, and Little Italy, is heading further north to Carlsbad where it’ll be joining of the Beacon La Costa complex on El Camino Real.

The development, which recently completed a renovation that includes upgraded storefronts and new outdoor seating areas, is already home to local roaster Lofty Coffee and La Costa Wine Company; later this year, it’ll welcome a scoop shop from Ohio-based Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and a North County branch of North Park butchery The Wise Ox. Shake Shack’s 2,854-square-foot space, which includes a large outdoor patio, should be opening towards the end of the year.

Founded as a humble New York City hot dog cart in 2004, Shake Shack now operates over 250 locations around the world. With a core menu of burgers, chicken sandwiches, and flat-top Vienna beef dogs, frozen custard, and crinkle cut fries, the chain is currently running seasonal specials through October that include a Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich, Hot Honey Fries, a non-alcoholic Lime Agave Margarita and Watermelon Mint Mojito, and a Cherry Pop Shake, a take on a cherry cola float with vanilla cola frozen custard, Amarena cherry, popping candy, whipped cream and cherry caramel candies.
