As San Diego’s only entirely vegan convenience store, selling everything from vegan cheeses to frozen foods and specializing in local and hard-to-find products, the Mission Valley/Grantville area’s Mission Square Market was also known for its vegan deli sandwiches, including croissant breakfast sandwiches and meatless versions of BLTs and Philly cheesesteaks.

This week, the market majorly expanded its food options and is now offering made-to-order breakfast, lunch, and dinner via new a in-house Mexican deli and fruteria called El Jardín, The Vegan Paradise.

Mission Square owner Sunny Bhanage has handed over food counter operations to Adrián Villanueva, who runs Litiker’s Mexican & Vegan Cuisine inside Liticker’s Liquor & Deli in Ocean Beach. On top of the market’s existing menu, Villanueva will feature many of the dishes popularized at Liticker’s, from acai bowls to breakfast burritos, vegan wings, and vegan birria quesatacos.

El Jardin is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call ahead for takeout or order through Postmates for pickup and delivery.

Update 4/23/21: Operations are currently paused with plans to resume weekend service only starting May 1. Call ahead to confirm.
