Established in 2017 as a pop-up in an East Hollywood parking lot, Dave’s Hot Chicken took off in a blaze of Nashville-style spicy fried chicken, starting with one storefront but now looking ahead to the launch of nearly 300 franchise locations throughout North America.

The chain landed in San Diego last May, with local operators Lawrence Joseph Kourie and Andrew Feghali opening their first outpost on Garnet Avenue. With a dozen locations planned for the area, Kourie tells Eater that they’re grateful for the warm response the Pacific Beach restaurant has received, where people have been lining up since day one.

This Sunday, April 25, the business partners will grand open a second spot in El Cajon on Fletcher Parkway where it’ll operate daily from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. with its fast-casual menu of hot chicken tenders and sliders offered in seven varying degrees of heat.

Kourie, who says he and Feghali have been inundated with requests from customers who all want a Dave’s in their neighborhoods, are next expanding to Mira Mesa. Opening this fall, Dave’s takes the place of Daphne’s California Greek at Westview Parkway’s Mira Mesa Market Center.
