Ice cream fans, rejoice. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, the favorite brand of President Joe Biden, a noted ice cream fanatic, is coming to San Diego.

Headquartered in Ohio, the company was founded in 2002 by Jeni Britton Bauer and now operates more than 50 stores around the country. Bauer has also authored two books on ice cream making; her first, called Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams at Home, won a James Beard Award in 2012.

While its ultra-premium pints have been available locally at Whole Foods, Ralphs, and Bristol Farms, Jeni’s is now bringing two scoop shops to the area that will both open later this year; one is headed for North Park and the other will be part of the Beacon La Costa shopping center in Carlsbad. “We’ve been trying to get to San Diego forever, knowing we had to be patient to find the right locations,” says Jeni Britton Bauer in a statement.

Known for bestsellers like Gooey Butter Cake, Brambleberry Crisp, and Salty Caramel, the company has also been in the news for its viral, limited-run flavors including the White House Chocolate Chip created for Biden’s inauguration, a polarizing interpretation of an Everything Bagel and the sold-out, frenzy-inducing Strawberry Pretzel Pie made in honor of Dolly Parton.
