Born early on the pandemic as a means to buoy business, the boozy ice cream creations of Metl Bar & Restaurant have become so popular in their own right that the Gaslamp bar has been able to open a second spot that will be dedicated to the cocktail creamery. MetlBar Creamery & Cafe landed in the former Two Blu Ducks space this week, bringing a new brunch hangout to the North Park neighborhood.

Operating daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the restaurant serves a menu that spans Southern classics like chicken-fried steak and biscuits and gravy to omelettes, eggs Benedict, French toast, waffles, and family-sized brunch boards.

Two wine-based ice creams — strawberries and champagne and lavender prosecco and goat cheese — will be offered until the cafe and bar gets its full liquor license. Co-owner Jenna Elskamp says they will be incorporating more ice cream flavors into the menu and plan to add an ice cream counter/scoop shop to the restaurant by this summer.
