A long-awaited snack shop has landed in Kearny Mesa, bringing made-to-order waffles filled with sweet and savory toppings. Famous Waffle Sandwich is huge in Asia, where it was founded in the Philippines in 2012 and now has hundreds of locations. The new Convoy Street outpost is one of the first in the U.S. but is the company’s second foray into San Diego; it used to have a kiosk inside Westfield North County in Escondido

Operating daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., the shop offers a multitude of possible waffle sandwich options, from peanut butter banana, mango cream cheese, and caramel apple pie to fried chicken, ham and cheese, and pizza fillings. Besides the handheld bites, the menu includes iced coffee and honeydew, ube, or horchata slushies.

Franchise owner Ed Paris told Eater that he’s planning to expand Famous Waffle Sandwich locally, hoping to open branches to Mira Mesa and the South Bay area.
