San Diego is awash in spicy fried chicken these days, from LA transplant Dave’s Hot Chicken to the homegrown Corner Chicken. The latest entry lands in Liberty Public Market, courtesy of the one of the food hall’s cornerstone vendors, Mastiff Sausage Company which also runs The Pig’s Gig BBQ inside the market as well as Mastiff Kitchen at North Park Beer Co.
Mastiff is taking over the Liberty Chik food stall, which introduced Nashville hot chicken to the market last fall. Rebranding as Fluster Cluck Hot Chicken, it’ll offer fried chicken tenders tucked into sliders or paired with a fresh buttermilk waffle. Pieces of the crispy chicken will serve as a topping for a salad or a pile of cheesy fries. Available at various degrees of spiciness, their ‘Cluckin’ Hot’ level requires the signing of a waiver. Co-owner Jacob Bartlett tells Eater the stall should launch in early to mid-July.
