Locally-owned Karina’s Group, which runs a wide range of eateries in San Diego including Savoie Italian Eatery in Otay Ranch and downtown’s Taka Sushi, is launching a program to give back to the first responders community.

Through the end of March, from noon to 6 p.m. at its Karina’s Mexican Seafood locations in Bonita and National City, the hospitality group is treating all first responders who show proper credentials — from firemen and policemen to hospital medical staff, EMTs, and paramedics — to a free burrito.

Eligible workers will receive a free carnitas, fish, or sautéed vegetable burrito; ordering in advance by phone is recommended but walk-ups are also welcome.

In addition to the Karina’s Mexican Seafood outposts in the South Bay, the group is still staffing several of its restaurants for takeout service including Saffron Thai and Karina’s Ceviches & More on India Street and Karina’s Taco Shop in Encinitas.
