Launching this Wednesday in La Mesa, Smokey & The Brisket is the second restaurant in the neighborhood for owner Alberto Morreale, whose multiple locations of Farmer’s Table include an outpost on La Mesa Boulevard. Replacing the Lake Murray Cafe, the eatery is centered around all things barbecue, with a menu fueled by an on-site smoker that will slow cook slabs of ribs, pulled pork, chicken, brisket and more available a la carte or as sandwiches and flatbreads. There’s also different variations on rotisserie chicken, as well as grilled Sicilian sausage and a Churrasco steak served with chimichurri.
Open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., the 5,000-square-foot space is designed to host large parties — when they’re permitted again. Reflecting Morreale’s passion for vintage cars and motorsports, the dining room features booths made from car parts, motorcycles on display, a counter constructed from toolboxes, and even a bar made from a classic 1960’s Dodge A100 van. In accordance with the theme, Smokey & The Brisket will screen NASCAR, motocross, monster truck events, and similar sports on its TVs.
