A popular eatery first established in 2008 in Laguna Beach that now has multiple locations clustered in the Los Angeles/Orange County area, from Pasadena to Manhattan Beach, Long Beach, and San Clemente, has arrived in San Diego. Newly-opened at the north end of the One Paseo complex, Nick’s Del Mar has a large patio, an exhibition kitchen, an indoor/outdoor bar and is currently operating daily for dinner service starting at 4 p.m. with lunch to start on October 7.

Putting a California spin on comfort food, the restaurant and cocktail bar’s menu ranges from daily-rotating soups to salads and starters that include asparagus fries and shrimp taquitos. There are also burgers, sandwiches, and entrees like barbecue pork ribs and buttermilk fried chicken.

The upscale eatery is planning at least one more outpost in the San Diego area. Its next location will be in Carlsbad, where it will be one of the tenants at State Street Commons. The new development from Fabric Investments and HP Investors, which replaces the Carlsbad Art and Antique Mall, includes a 4,000-square-foot quonset hut structure that will house Nick’s Carlsbad.
