As it settles comfortably into its third year of operation, Liberty Public Market continues to refresh its food offerings, rotating the local vendors that make up the food hall. The newest addition is serving up its rendition of a Nashville sensation — Nashville hot chicken. Now up and running in the former Roma Express space is Liberty Chik, whose fried boneless chicken filets are available at mild, medium, hot, or smokin’ hot heat levels. The chicken is sold by the piece, in a sandwich, or paired with housemade waffles, with sides range from mac ‘n’ cheese and Tennessee mustard slaw to ‘bonuts’, or biscuit doughnuts.
Meanwhile, Roma Express has moved across the way into the Liberty Meat Shop booth. Now dubbed Roma Express Italian Deli, it’s expanded to include hot and cold sandwiches and antipasti on top of arancini, hand-dipped cannoli, and Italian cookies. And Crafted/Scooped by Mootime, the on-site bakery and ice cream shop, has condensed its square footage and menu. Renamed as Mootime Cookies & Creamery, its focus is gourmet cookies and ice cream. Filling the rest of the space will be an annex of North Park eatery Chris’ Ono Grinds. Scheduled to launch in October, it will spotlight classic Hawaiian dishes including slow-cooked kalua pork, grilled huli huli chicken, and macaroni salad.
Hold Fast, a previously-announced sustainable seafood hand roll spot from chef Rob Ruiz of The Land & Water Company has been delayed. Until it opens, the space will be used for additional seating and more retail opportunities for the market.
