Downtown Chula Vista’s dynamic Third Avenue gained another resident over the weekend with the opening of Tavern at the Vogue. Located next to the historic Vogue Theater, which is being revitalized into a multi-purposed concert and event venue, the eatery (formerly a Thai restaurant) has been remodeled to resemble an old world beer hall and sausage house, with classic arcade games and a shuffleboard table providing entertainment.

Proprietors Alan Cassel and Dr. Gonzalo “Q” Quintero, who run the Grind House in Barrio Logan (Cassel also owns the Chula Vista Grind House with another partner), will be offering dinner service at Tavern at the Vogue on weekends only until its grand launch on Wednesday, August 21. Operating Wednesday through Monday going forward, its kitchen will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The German-style, sausage-centric menu includes traditional kielbasa, bratwurst, and bison sausage as well as pretzels served with mustard and cheese. A refrigerated case will be stocked with to-go foods, from sausages to salads.
