Communal Coffee Branches Out in South Park

The outdoor cafe adds an indoor component

A year after opening an all-patio coffee bar in South Park, Communal Coffee owner and neighborhood resident Jen Byard has expanded the cafe into an adjacent storefront on Fern Street that will be officially unveiled this Saturday, August 31. The space features indoor seating and a thoughtfully selected collection of retail items, from clothing and home decor to skjncare and succulents, plus a new public restroom.

A grand opening party, scheduled for September 14, will feature live music and food from local eateries including The Rose, Buona Forchetta, and Del Sur.

Its menu, which spotlights San Francisco’s Sightglass Coffee and treats from Wayfarer Bread & Pastry in Bird Rock, will also grow. By the end of the year, Byard will be enlarging the kitchen at Communal Coffee’s original North Park location and adding pizza, tapas, and charcuterie to its offerings as well as beer and wine. Many of the new menu items will be offered at the South Park cafe.
