North Park-based City Tacos, which has an outlet in La Mesa and debuted in Imperial Beach in conjunction with Mike Hess Brewing earlier this year, is prepping for much more expansion; founded by Gerry Torres, the popular eatery has three new locations scheduled to open by the end of 2019.

First up is a foray into North County to the Lumberyard Shopping Center at 1031 South Coast Highway in Encinitas. Aiming to launch by early September, this branch will offer selections from its signature menu, which includes house favorites tacos filled with grilled steak and garlic shrimp and chorizo and caramelized pineapple, as well as ceviche, tostadas, and other lighter options created by chef/partner Eduardo Baez.

Torres, who told Eater that he hopes to continue to take the brand up the California coast, will also bring City Tacos to Pacific Beach, to a prime spot near Crystal Pier. Opening at 4516 Mission Boulevard next to Board & Brew, it’s slated to arrive in October. And by the end of the year, another branch should land in Sorrento Valley at 11075 Roselle Street, where it will be part of The Alexandria office complex.
