The world’s fastest-growing Asian restaurant company has broken ground on its new location in San Diego; Jollibee is returning to Mira Mesa with a large and modern, 3,200-square-foot eatery that will also include an outdoor patio and a drive-thru window. Mesa Centers’ Brett Feurstein told Eater that the fast-food chain is planning to be open by December 2019.
Founded in 1978 in the Philippines, the company now has more than 1300 stores around the globe and is expanding its U.S. presence. There’s an existing branch in National City, which will be remodeled, and the brand once operated a small outpost in Mira Mesa from 2007 to 2013.
Known for its chef hat-wearing bee mascot and as the “Home of Chickenjoy” because of its signature buckets of fried chicken, Jollibee’s menu features other favorites including Palabok Fiesta noodles, Jolly Spaghetti with banana ketchup-sweetened sauce, ham, ground meat, and hot dogs, Filipino breakfast meals, and popular desserts ranging from Halo-Halo to Peach Mango Pie.
