A pop-up tea bar has found a permanent storefront in Point Loma for its specialized menu and tea service. In 2017, Paru Tea Bar founder Amy Truong channeled her love of tea into creating a premium tea subscription box, which focuses on organic loose-leaf tea from small farms in Japan and Vietnam, and holding private events and classes around town.
Designed in a minimalist and modern style by local firm Sunset Projects, her new retail shop and cafe shares space with Studio Luniste and features an intimate, nine-seat tea bar that offers a selection of over 30 teas and a rotating menu of specialty tea drinks.
Open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, for Paru’s tea flight service. The seasonal beverage menu includes blue chamomile tea with lemon and lavender sugar, yuzu sparkling tea, and mint matcha oatmilk lattes. The shop will be adding more snack options this fall as well as branching out into afternoon tea service and other special events, including a tea float collaboration with local gelato shop An’s Dry Cleaning.
