A new, multi-purpose eatery has just opened in heart of historic Barrio Logan. Grind House’s flagship location in Chula Vista is geared towards morning clientele, but partner Alan Cassell tells Eater that the Logan Avenue location is looking to focus more on evenings and weekends. The 1,600-square-foot all-day eatery, coffee shop, and bar mashup features 25 beers on tap, wine, and a coffee program supplied by Modern Times Coffee. The space also includes a patio and a venue for private events and art shows.
Heading up operations in Barrio Logan is Gonzalo Quintero. Known in the local beer and restaurant scene as “Dr. Q”, Quintero has significant ties to the neighborhood; his father was at the founding of nearby Chicano Park and his mother grew up a block away from the new business. “As a team, we wanted to bring things that we like to eat to Logan Avenue, and, as a Chula Vista brand, we want to extend our hand to the neighborhood,” Quintero said.

Grind House favorites, including the cubano sandwich and pulled pork sliders, are on the menu, along with a new tapas-centered brunch. Pastries from Bread and Cie and Unison Baking Company will also be offered. The space is scheduled to be fully up and running on Monday, June 3 with daily hours from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Until then, it’s operating from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. on Sundays.
