The sweet combo of coffee and ice cream is coming to South Park, where Dark Horse Coffee Roasters will be opening a new 1,500-square-foot cafe at the corner of 30th and Juniper Streets later this spring that will include a full ice cream bar featuring small batch frozen treats from Mutual Friend. Last fall, Dark Horse debuted Mutual Friend in Golden Hill adjacent to its coffee bar on 25th Street.

Replacing longtime ice cream shop The Daily Scoop, the South Park outpost will also have a freezer stocked with pints to-go. In addition to the full range of Dark Horse coffee drinks, it will offer vegan doughnuts from its Skinny Donuts line as well as various toasts and liege waffles. Dark Horse’s Bryan Charlson, who lives in the neighborhood, says this coffee bar will be the largest to-date and will stay open later that most of its other locations.

The local roaster is continuing to expand, with a cafe headed for Garden Grove, CA and a roastery/cafe opening in its founders’ hometown of Kauai, Hawaii. This summer, Dark Horse will arrive in the South Bay, with a new coffee bar coming to Chula Vista’s Park Plaza at the Village at 310 3rd Street; pints of Mutual Fried ice cream will also be available.
