A local vegetarian restaurant with long-running locations in the North Park and Clairemont neighborhoods is heading to downtown La Jolla. Scheduled to open this summer, SipZ Vegetarian Kitchen will replace Tandoori Chef on Pearl Street; the 2,000-square-foot restaurant is being completely renovated and modernized in collaboration with North Park hospitality design firm MY Studio ID (Burger Lounge, Waterbar, Stake Chophouse).

Founder Sylvia Le says the La Jolla outpost is kickstarting a continuing expansion plan that will see a new Sipz opening every year. While keeping its time-tested menu of all vegetarian and mostly vegan Pan-Asian dishes, including sushi, noodles, soups, and other classics from Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese, and Chinese cuisines made with mock meat, the eatery has been streamlined to feature a counter service set-up at all future locations. Going forward, the restaurants will also be paired with an adjoining cafe space that will offer vegan pastries and coffee from a local roaster.

Le also runs Hi Street Kitchen (formerly Trade Winds Tavern) in Kearny Mesa, which she recently revamped to boost the vegan options available from its menu of bar bites and beer-friendly plates.
