Looking to capture the flavors and feel of Baja’s booming wine, craft beer, and culinary scenes, construction is now underway at El Cruce+241, a future showcase of food and drink from south of the border which is slated to open this July on Third Avenue in Chula Vista.
The two-level property will feature an open kitchen and dining area on the top floor with Sano Hussong of Humo y Sal and Sano’s Steakhouse fame leading the kitchen as its head chef. The lower level will include a tasting room area which can be reserved for private events. A robust lineup of wines from producers like Valle de Guadalupe’s Lechuza Winery along with a draft list slated to feature Baja breweries, including Ensenada’s Agua Mala Tijuana’s Insurgente from Tijuana, among others, will be offered.
Tanya Schroeder, who has worked as the tasting room manager at Second Chance Beer Company’s two local tasting lounges and boasts years of experience in the local hospitality and specialty coffee industries, will be heading operations at El Cruce+241. “As someone who has spent extensive time in Baja, being able to bring our collective passion for the culture, cuisine, beer and wine to the heart of Chula Vista is incredibly exciting,” said Schroeder regarding the project. “We really are bringing the best of the best up here.”
While there are plans to host viewing parties for Club Tijuana soccer matches and offer lunch specials in a family-friendly atmosphere, Schroeder says that the restaurant will plan to offer a more elegant dining experience to pair with its wine portfolio in the evenings.
