The Red Fox Steakhouse, known by regulars as the Red Fox Room, will be able to temporarily delay the move from its longtime home on El Cajon Boulevard. After more than five decades at The Lafayette Hotel, the beloved piano bar and eatery’s lease was reportedly expiring this month, but Eater is hearing that the Red Fox will be staying put for a couple more months, at least until June.
Property owner Jay Wentz, principal of JCG Development, confirmed the postponement, sharing, “We have extended the Red Fox lease for a bit longer to allow them more time to get their new location squared away and for us to finish negotiations with a potential new tenant.”
The Red Fox Room’s owners already have a game plan for its next chapter, having purchased a stand-alone building, a former hair salon, across the street at 2200 El Cajon Boulevard where the wood-paneled bar and lounge will be recreated piece by piece.
