North Park Barbecue Specialist Temporarily Shutters for Remodel

Grand Ole BBQ y Asado will reopen this spring

On the heels of opening his 15,000-square-foot temple to smoked meat and live music in East County, Grand Ole BBQ y Asado owner Andy Harris is turning his attention back to his original North Park location, which will celebrate its fourth anniversary later this fall.

Harris recently shuttered the mostly-outdoor eatery on 32nd Street for a remodel and is aiming to reopen by May. He told Eater that the vibe of the space will remain the same, but the goal of the refresh is to make the restaurant more comfortable for customers; a large awning will be added, with fans and heaters to keep it climate controlled, and the dining room will be spruced up and enhanced with a new bar for beer and wine. The menu will be enlarged too, thanks to a kitchen expansion that will allow Harris and team to create additional side dishes and non-barbecue options, including vegan-friendly plates.
