One of San Diego’s original spots for casual, fresh seafood adds another location with the opening of Blue Water Seafood Market & Grill in Ocean Beach. Its first India Street eatery was launched in 2004 by brothers and OB natives Matt and Judd Braun; last year, Blue Water joined the concessions lineup at Petco Park.
Longtime fishermen, the Brauns stock the retail markets at all their outposts with a variety of local seafood that can also be grilled with custom marinades and featured in sandwiches, salads, plates, or tacos like the Track Taco, which tops chipotle butter-marinated wild Pacific shrimp with Maui onion and mango slaw. There are frequent specials, as well as a other dishes that range from seafood cocktails and ahi poke to sauteed mussels, fish and chips, and cioppino.
The 2,500-square-foot Ocean Beach restaurant is a partnership with local hospitality group Social Syndicate, which owns neighboring Sunset Plaza spots Wonderland Ocean Pub and OB Surf Lodge. With large booths, communal tables, and an ocean-view patio, there’s considerably more seating here then on India Street.
