Chinese Dumpling Shop Opens Off Convoy

Harmony Pot Sticker offers pan-fried dumplings

Newly opened in the same Engineer Road plaza as Dae Jang Keum Korean BBQ is Harmony Pot Sticker, part of a chain of Chinese eateries that was founded 25 years ago in Shenyang, the largest city in Northeastern China, and now has more than 40 locations.

Specializing in potstickers, or pan-fried dumplings, Harmony’s are made fresh daily in a slightly different style than might be familiar. Here, rounds of homemade dough are simply pinched together in the middle around the filling, leaving both sides open, which allows more of the dumpling skin to get fried until crisp. Harmony offers dumplings with several pork fillings, including pork and celery and pork and green pepper, as well as shrimp and chives, all best consumed with a DIY dipping sauce of vinegar, soy sauce, and chili oil.

The rest of the short menu includes a variety of soups, from pumpkin congee to stewed cabbage with pork, plus cold appetizers ranging from cucumber salad and sliced braised beef to chicken in spicy sauce. Open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, the Kearny Mesa shop is currently cash only.
