Happy Lemon grand opens this weekend at Del Mar Highlands Town Center with two for one specials and other prizes. The global bubble tea brand, which originated in China, now has more than 1500 locations around the world; the chain first landed in San Diego last summer with a shop on Convoy Street.

Known for a wide range of boba tea drinks and smoothies, from milk tea and lemon green tea to strawberry black tea, Happy Lemon is most famous for its proprietary rock salt creama, also known as salted cheese, made from a blend of cream cheese, whipped cream, milk, and rock salt; the creamy foam is available as a topping for a variety of drinks. Other snacks include trendy bubble waffles; the Del Mar Highlands location offers them in flavors like chocolate and cheese.

The management team that runs in the San Diego stores have more area outposts planned for 2020; owner Jack Wang says that the tea shop will be coming to Westfield UTC and Westfield Mission Valley along with other potential locations.
