Brunch Crowds Have a New Place to Gather in the Gaslamp

Gaslamp Breakfast Company opens Thursday

Walter Wilson Studios

A spacious spot for all things breakfast is set to open in the Gaslamp tomorrow. Breakfast Company lands in a 3,148-square-foot space on J Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenue that include patio primed for downtown people-watching. The eatery is part of the Rise & Shine Restaurant Group, which also runs Fig Tree Café, Feast & Fareway, El Jardín Cantina, and Breakfast Republic.

With nine branches of Breakfast Republic and counting, and another just announced for Hillcrest, founder Johan Engman seems eager to command the breakfast audience in every neighborhood. Last spring, Engman debuted the Breakfast Company concept in North Park where it serves as an alternative to his always-crowded original Breakfast Republic location on University Avenue.

Open daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Breakfast Company offers its own distinct breakfast and brunch menu of omelets and scrambles, waffles, pancakes, French toast, plus specialties that include fried rice eggs Benedict with crispy ham and sambal hollandaise and chicken confit and grits with chicharron and rhubarb preserves. New additions include skirt steak and eggs, a California breakfast burrito, and a vegan breakfast sandwich with vegan ‘egg’ and soy chorizo. Drinks range from the Dirty Beet Latte with espresso and beet juice to kombucha on tap, beer, sparkling wine, and variety of cocktails based on fruit and vegetable juices, including a Bloody Mary garnished with bacon and deviled eggs.
