Christmas is coming early to two prominent local cocktail bars that will soon be transformed into temporary winter wonderlands. The boozy, kitschy fun gets started on Monday, November 25 at The Grass Skirt, which will be one of over 20 bars in the country hosting the Sippin’ Santa pop-up, a tiki-themed affair with drinks created by tiki expert and author Jeff “Beachbum” Berry, owner of Beachbum Berry’s Latitude 29 in New Orleans. Among his concoctions are the Kris Kringle Colada made with dark Jamaican rum, Cynar, allspice, lime, and pineapple juice and the Christmas Eve of Destruction with dark overprrof rum, herbal liqueur, nutmeg syrup, lime, and angostura bitters.
Landing back on Adams Avenue on November 29, the day after Thanksgiving, is Miracle on 30th Street, Polite Provisions’ annual holiday extravaganza. As one of more than 80 bars around the world participating, Polite will be decking itself to the rafters in Christmas tinsel and serving a seasonally-appropriate cocktail menu that ranges from the Snowball Old Fashioned (caramelized pecan bourbon, spiced molasses syrup, wormwood bitters) to the Ginger Bread Flip (rye whiskey, gingerbread syrup, tiki bitters, whole egg, ginger snap cookie crumbs). Both The Grass Skirt and Polite Provisions pop-ups will run through New Year’s Eve.
