URBN Pizza, the latest restaurant to land at One Paseo is known throughout San Diego for its New Haven-style pies. Owner Jon Mangini’s first project was BASIC in the East Village, which he opened in 2006 with a menu of thin-crusted East Coast/SoCal-hybrid pizzas that were cooked in a gas-fired brick oven. He subsequently launched URBN as a successful offshoot, shifting to focus on coal-fired pizza. Debuting in 2008 in Vista, the eatery and bar now has outposts in El Cajon, North Park, and Encinitas.
A North County resident, Mangini says that One Paseo felt like the right fit for URBN brand, which is located next to Harland Brewing in the new Carmel Valley development. The 2,800-square-foot restaurant, which features a 1,000-square-foot patio, also includes a full cocktail bar. It’s open for lunch and dinner daily, and may extend its late night hours.
URBN’s menu of oblong-shaped pizzas ranges from build-your-own customizable pizzas to craft pies with pre-determined toppings. Now-signature pizzas include white pies with mashed potato and bacon or fresh clams to eggplant parm with red-sauce. New to this location is a separate quick-service shop for to-go and delivery orders. It offers pizza by the slice as well as espresso drinks and Italian ice.
