A well-received addition to the Little Italy Food Hall lineup earlier this year, Bobboi Natural Gelato just debuted a stand-alone gelateria on nearby Kettner Boulevard. The local company, founded in downtown La Jolla in 2014, fills in the ground floor of the AV8 mixed-use development, joining SuperNatural Sandwiches and Zinqué Restaurant & Wine Bar.

Made by chef Monica Maccioni using traditional techniques, Bobboi’s gelato and sorbet comes in all the classic Italian flavors, from stracciatella to pistachio, but its better known for its unique combos like Charcoal Vanilla and Pumpkin Amaretto and flavors based on local ingredients like Rose Almond made with local Hopkins almonds and Lebanese rosewater. Among the 18 flavors in queue for the Kettner shop’s Pozzetti gelato case will be exclusive collaborations with area chefs and restaurants like Miso Orange Maple, inspired by The Crack Shack’s biscuits and butter, or Pineapple Amaro made from Nolita Hall’s pineapple-infused amaro liqueur); future flavors also include partnerships with Puesto and Cesarina.

Open daily at 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, the 1,000-square-foot shop has indoor and outdoor seating and was designed by local group Arch5 (Cloak & Petal) with bright and colorful tile and will eventually have a wall-sized, custom-painted mural.

Pasquale Ioele of Urban Strategies Group represented the landlord in the lease.
