The crowds that flock to Extraordinary Desserts will soon have a new spot to gather for its sweet and savory treats. Founder and master pastry chef Karen Krasne is prepping to open another location this March in The Louie, a mixed-use building on Fourth Avenue in Bankers Hill that also houses James Coffee Co. The opening will coincide with the shutter of its 30-year-old original location on 5th Avenue near Balboa Park.
The new 2,500-square-foot space is designed by Jennifer Luce of LUCE et Studio, who won awards for her work on the dessert shop’s Little Italy outpost. A jewel box for Krasne’s creations, it will feature a custom-designed 40’ glass facade and a 30-foot bronze-wrapped bar, with glass boxes displaying extravagant desserts. There will be seating for up to 100 guests indoors and out on the patio, which will be shaded by metal mesh screen.
A daily selection of of Krasne’s signature cakes and desserts will be available at the new store, along with a list of beer, wine, and sparking wine that will have an emphasis on female producers. Savory options, including cheese and charcuterie, will also be featured in a mix of new dishes and favorites from the Little Italy menu.
