Harvest By The Patio Will Get a ‘Surf-Style’ Revamp

The Patio Group will refresh its East Village eatery

Healthy, Quick Food & Cocktails Come Together at Harvest by The Patio

Opened in 2016 by The Patio Group (The Patio on Goldfinch, Fireside by The Patio, Saska’s Steakhouse) in the East Village, Harvest by The Patio (369 10th Avenue) will close in mid-October for a refresh that will pivot the restaurant into Himmelberg’s, a “rock n’ roll surf style, fast-casual eatery and bar” named after Joey Himmelberg, former senior project manager at American National Investments, the real estate development company founded by The Patio Group’s CEO Gina Champion-Cain.

Himmelberg passed away in 2016 and was a close friend of Champion-Cain, who honored him with a tribute — the Himmelberg’s Bar, which is part of the hospitality group’s latest eatery, The Patio on 101 in Encinitas. A custom beer called Himmel Brew, brewed by Mission Brewery, will be served exclusively in Encinitas, Surf Rider Pizza Co. in Mission Beach, the incoming La Mesa outpost of Surf Rider Pizza Co., and the new East Village Himmelberg’s,

Scheduled to reopen in January, Himmelberg’s 3,500-square-foot space at the corner 10th and J will retain a similar layout, with the bottom floor featuring a fast-casual food counter and grab and go menu. The health-conscious surf lifestyle will inform the menu, which will include the Maverick Bowl with avocado, roasted corn, red kidney beans, scallions, tomato, chopped romaine, cilantro and toasted cumin dressing and the Olympia Bowl with chickpeas, cucumber, red onion, roasted peppers, tomato, kalamata olives, spinach, feta cheese, and red wine herb dressing. The larger upstairs space features a dining area and a full bar that will offer a competitive happy hour.
