Get two free tacos today at Tocaya Organica in the Gaslamp
LA-based Tocaya Organica, which opened in the Gaslamp at 755 Fifth Avenue earlier this summer, will give away tacos to all day today. Calling it “First Round’s On Us”, the promo offers your first two tacos free with any purchase of a beverage, side, or entree. Running from 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., the deal applies to its Carne Molida, Chicken Tinga, Achiote Chicken, Turkey Picante, Adobo Tofu tacos. The casual Mexican eatery is gearing up for a significant presence in San Diego, with locations coming to Westfield UTC and North County’s new One Paseo.
Viejas Casino & Resort taps Mission Brewery for custom beer
East County’s Viejas Casino & Resort has launched a special beer that’s now available across the property, from the new adult-only Willows Hotel & Spa to the luxury resort’s bars, restaurants, and casino. Called Viejas Golden Blonde, it’s a light and refreshing 5% ABV blonde ale with notes of citrus and hops. Brewed in collaboration with Mission Brewery, the beer will also be available at the East Village brewery’s tasting room while supplies last.
Tijuana-based pop-up coming to Makers Quarter
Founded in Tijuana, NERO48 has become a popular event featuring art, music, food, shopping, and more. Past iterations have been held in Tijuana and Los Angeles, but the pop-up lands in San Diego for the first time on Saturday, September 22 and Sunday, September 23, when it will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Broadstone Makers Quarter. Featuring food, beer, wine, and spirits from Baja, it will also offer live entertainment, more than 20 pop-up shops, lectures, and 15 apartments transformed into immersive art experiences. Tickets are $10 for adults and $2.50 for children; a portion of the proceeds will local nonprofit Urban Angels.
An’s Dry Cleaning launches line of tea-flavored gelato and floats
Known for its creative and unique flavors, Adams Avenue gelato shop An’s Dry Cleaning, will introduce an all-new lineup of flavors made in partnership with San Diego tea company Paru Tea Bar. Launching this Saturday, September 22 and running through the end of the year, the new menu was fashioned as an eight-course progressive “tea ceremony” ceremony. Served in tea set, the gelatos each feature a hand-blended, organic tea; flavors include Earl Grey & Lemon, Oolong & Cherry, and Genmaicha & Mango Vegan Sorbet. The shop is also offering “affogatea”, a twist on classic affogato that pairs a scoop of the small-batch gelato with a cacao-chicory tea pour over.
Bitter Brothers brew cocktail-inspired beer with chef Javier Plascencia
Famed Baja chef Javier Plascencia has transformed one of his favorite cocktails, a dry martini, into a beer with the help of local Bitter Brothers Brewing Company. Created in collaboration with Ensenada’s Cervecería Transpeninsular brewery, the Martinez rings in at a sessionable 5% ABV and features juniper berry, angelica root, coriander, orange peel, and olive brine. Available at Plascencia’s restaurants including Finca Altozano and Animalón in the Valle de Guadalupe, and Misión 19 and Erizo in Tijuana as well as the Tijuana tasting room of Cervecería Transpeninsular and Bitter Brothers Brewing Company in San Diego, the Martinez will be officially launched at a party on Wednesday, September 26 at Caesar’s Hotel in Tijuana with Plascencia and the brewers in attendance; tickets are $20 and include a commemorative glass, beer, and appetizers.
