A central spot on 5th Avenue in Hillcrest, which last housed Salt & Cleaver, has been redesigned into Common Stock, a new casual eatery which serves, via counter and table service, a nostalgic American menu that ranges from Hawaiian poke to a Nashville hot chicken sandwich as well as Peruvian-inspired rotisserie chicken, flat iron steak sauced with black garlic chimichurri and classic onion dip with housemade potato chips. Common Stock is currently offering an abridged version of the menu until its grand opening, scheduled for this coming weekend.
Owners Anderson Clark and Brian Douglass worked for the well-established, LA-based Hillstone Restaurant Group, and channeled their considerable hospitality experience into creating Common Stock, positioning it as a reliable hangout for Hillcrest and beyond. Clark tells Eater that they plan to open multiple locations of the eatery in neighborhoods around San Diego. The menu will eventually expand to include more salads, sandwiches, and even Southern barbecue, as well as beer and wine.
