Indian Eatery Scores Sought-After South Park Spot

Curryosity is coming soon

Facebook

A treasured tipster told us that at long last, a tenant has been secured for the coveted space in South Park where Fire Horse Asian Bistro once stood. Vacant for the past three years, the Juniper Street eatery will be taken over by Raj Mutti, who runs Spice Lounge in Pacific Beach.

His new restaurant, called Curryosity, will help fill a void in South Park and its surrounding neighborhoods where residents have been frustrated by the lack of Asian cuisine. Curryosity’s menu will combine Spice House’s bestselling dishes, including curries and North Indian-style biriyani, with appetizers that Mutti characterizes as Indian fusion, ranging from curry mussels and spiced scallops to a twist on bruschetta using naan bread and a Indian-flavored quesadilla baked in a tandoor oven. There will be a large range of gluten-free dishes, as well as vegan options like a masala curry made with tofu and coconut milk.

The eatery, which will serve wine, beer, and soju-based cocktails, should be open this fall after a mostly cosmetic redo featuring a brighter color palette of white, gold, and light pink, and a new decor that will include Indian lanterns, floor cushions, and other furnishings.
