First announced back in 2016 and then a 2017 “Most Anticipated Restaurant” fans of Johan Engman’s Fig Tree Café and Breakfast Republic will finally have the chance to sample the elevated menu and atmosphere at North Park Breakfast Company later this month.
Self-described as sporting a “comfortable, yet elegant” interior design, the 2,125-square-foot space at 3131 University Ave. sits next to the Art Produce Gallery. Original plans called for a garage-style window open to the street, high ceilings, a living succulent wall, couch seating, and new to the building, a second-floor deck.
Extremely active over the last two years rapidly expanding his Rise & Shine Restaurant Group, Engman’s current plans include launching four more Breakfast Republics, new concept Eggies, the California Taco Club and less than half a mile from North Park Breakfast Company, the Neapolitan-style pizzas of Norpa Kitchen.
Currently hiring, previews of North Park’s menu have included the prospect of breakfast cocktails, banana bread pancakes, “smore’s waffles,” savory French toast creations, scrambles and special attention paid to offering vegan choices.
