Lolita’s Mexican Food, which launched in 1984 as a taco shop in Chula Vista and has since become a South Bay staple, is adding a seventh San Diego location near the SDSU campus which joins outposts in Kearny Mesa, Bonita, and the East Village. The new College Avenue branch of the family owned and operated eatery is scheduled to open in early 2019 with free student events and even a taco-eating contest.
In the meantime, founders Joaquin and Dolores “Lolita” Farfan have rolled out a food truck, which will help build brand awareness for the company and provide for offsite catering. The truck is outfitted with a full service kitchen, enabling Lolita’s to serve all its bestsellers, including California burritos, carne asada fries, and rolled tacos. The truck officially hit the road last week, but is planning free pop-ups on Friday July 27 and Tuesday, August 7 to introduce itself to San Diego; follow Lolita’s on Twitter for exact location info.
