Mission Hills Is Getting Its Own Frozen Treats Shop

Little Italy’s DixiePops is expanding

DixiePops, the frozen popsicle shop that launched last fall at Little Italy’s Roma Urban Market, is expanding to Mission Hills where will be part of Patio Plaza, a property on Washington Street at Goldfinch that’s being renovated by American National Investments, the real estate development company behind The Patio Group (The Patio on Goldfinch, Fireside by the Patio). The 900-square-foot space should be completed by late summer or early fall; its neighbors will be longtime corner tenant Mission Hills Florist and a new gym.

DixiePops’ owner Dixie Hall will keep her original 200-square-foot Little Italy site, a walk-up window on Columbia Street, but the Mission Hills location will provide the much-needed room to increase her production of handmade treats, growing into additional offerings that will include ice cream, ice cream sandwiches, milkshakes, Italian ices, and shaved ice made with fresh syrups. Hall’s signature popsicles, which include dairy-free and vegan options, ranging from Vietnamese coffee to blackberry lemonade, buttermilk, mango pineapple, and seasonal specials, will also be available. Hall says she plans on hosting ice cream demos and classes for kids at the new shop, which will feature some seating and a glassed-in kitchen.
