Based in Chicago, but with recently-opened locations in Los Angeles and Orange County, Aloha Poke Co. is expanding its Southern California presence with a flagship location in Pacific Beach grand opening on Wednesday, June 27. The fast-casual eateries, which have a 1950s Hawaiian luau theme, specialize in build-your-own poke bowls filled with never-frozen, sashimi grade sustainable fish; there’s sesame and shoyu-marinated tuna, salmon, or a vegetarian tofu option. Diners can choose to enhance their poke bowls with toppings like avocado and edamame, and choose from a variety of sauces ranging from chili and ponzo mayo to Japanese citrus ranch. Other menu items include tuna belly tostadas, a combo of poke and Fritos called “Walkin Poke”, and savory rice balls.
An originally planned location on Park Boulevard in University Heights is no longer in the works but a rep for the company says it hopes to expand into other San Diego neighborhoods, saying that Little Italy, Gaslamp, and La Jolla are among the potential locations.
