The WestBean Coffee Roasters is the latest local beverage business to land on the stretch of Morena Boulevard that’s currently home to Bitter Brothers Brewery, Blue Door Urban Winery, and German wine shop Truly Fine Wine. The coffee company, which was founded in 2009, is moving into the Bay Ho site last occupied by Red Card Cafe. WestBean co-owner Andrew Karr tells Eater that the main reason for the move is to provide more room for its roastery; customers will be able to see the roasters at work in the space, which will also include a large retail area.
The roasting operations and an on-site cafe and outdoor patio should be up and running in three months. It will offer a menu similar to its locations in Liberty Public Market, downtown San Diego, and Bankers Hill, which includes cold brew on tap, house-sweetened lattes, and pour-over coffee as well as all the classic espresso drinks. Karr says the cafe will start by just serving coffee, but food options will be added later.
