North Park resident Steve Billings, who owns U-31, is in the permitting process for a new brewery and restaurant that will open at 3117 University Avenue across the street from his long-running neighborhood bar. Formerly a church site, the 4,000-square-foot space is being redesigned by Mariana Postlethwaite of Tijuana’s Casa Duhagon using a mix of materials, including copper, brick, and wood, with white quartz countertops, live greenery, and lounge space incorporated into the 85-seat restaurant.

Billings is still deliberating on a name, but tells Eater that the project will encompass a full-service restaurant serving elevated small plates and a brewery that will be visible from the dining room. He’s also planning a revamp of U-31 that will see significant changes made to the look and direction of the sports bar/club. It will still offer dancing, but will add on live acoustic music programming in the early evenings and undergo a remodel that will bring with it a brand new food menu.
