Choice Superfood Bar & Juicery, a local eatery with a strong presence in North County, is expanding south into Little Italy. It’s founded by Natasha McKean, who has opened Choice locations in Carlsbad, Del Mar, and most recently Del Sur, and whose background in nutrition informs its plant-based menu that ranges from cold-press juice and smoothies to salads, sushi, and sweet and savory snacks, including plenty of gluten-free and dairy-free options. Next Wave Commercial’s Paul Ahern, who is helping to grow the brand, says McKean’s has a “contagious passion for educating and encouraging others to make positive and healthy life choices”; McKean also plans to host classes on wellness in the space.
The new location on India Street, previously a French creperie, is the first of several outlets planned outside of North County. Scheduled to launch this summer, the 915-square-foot space is the largest footprint yet for the vegan shop, which will include new bi-fold windows that open onto the sidewalk as well as patio seating. To start, the cafe will be open from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekends. With its health and wellness-focused food options, it should be a welcome addition for neighborhood residents and employees, says Colliers International’s David Maxwell, who represented the landlord in the transaction.
