The Patio Group (Fireside by the Patio, Surf Rider Pizza, Saska’s Steakhouse, Harvest by the Patio) is making a first foray into North County with a new restaurant in the works for Encinitas. The Patio on 101 will land on South Coast Highway, replacing Open House Food + Drink. Launched last year in Moonlight Plaza by owners Wade and Kristi Hageman, Open House spanned 7,000-square-feet of indoor/outdoor space and offered everything from Asian cuisine to burgers, a raw bar, and craft cocktails. Expressing gratitude to their employees, loyal customers, and the city of Encinitas, where they continue to operate the popular Blue Ribbon Artisan Pizzeria and The Craftsman New American Tavern, the Hagemans say that The Patio Group will be the right fit for the coastal neighborhood.
The Patio 101 is expected to open in June 2018, with a design and menu akin to its restaurant relations, The Patio on Goldfinch in Mission Hills, and The Patio on Lamont in Pacific Beach. Asian buns from the group’s Bao Beach on Mission Boulevard will also be offered as part of this location’s happy hour and late night offerings.
Open Tuesday through Sunday for weekday brunch, happy hour, dinner, late night, and weekend brunch, the restaurant will feature a layout that will include an outdoor lounge and kids’ play area; one of its two bars will be named “Himmelberg’s” in remembrance of Joey Himmelberg, a beloved friend of The Patio Group CEO, Gina Champion-Cain. Another “Himmelberg’s” bar will also open in the new Surf Rider Pizza outpost coming to La Mesa.
Next Wave Commercial’s Paul Ahern, who represented the buyer and seller in the transaction said, “As a longtime fan of The Patio Group and their family of restaurants, I’m incredibly excited to see Gina and her team implement their flagship brand in coastal North County.”
