Five years after arriving on Prospect Street, The Hake has shuttered. The upscale La Jolla eatery, which sits below street level, started as a 3,400-square-foot modern brasserie with roots in Mexico City. In 2016, it underwent a pricey redesign and remodel that added on 2,000 square feet of additional dining and bar space as well as panoramic views of La Jolla Cove.
Serving a seafood-based menu that drew from Mexican and Mediterranean cuisines, the restaurant suffered a kitchen shake up last fall and was currently led by chefs Diego Lopez (sea180º and Bleu Boheme) and Mickey Martinez (Juniper & Ivy and Stone Brewing), who had just launched lunch and weekend brunch service earlier this month.
The property has been on the market for some time and the well-designed space is turnkey; Eater is hearing that a sale is pending.
