Look Inside Little Italy’s New All-Day Cafe and Bakery

Peek inside Frost Me Café & Bakery

Now open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Frost Me Café & Bakery is the first eatery to launch at the new Piazza della Famiglia in the heart of Little Italy. The local bakery was founded in 2011 as a cupcake catering and delivery service by Audrey Hermes and Jon Parker, who competed and placed second in Season 7 of Food Network’s Cupcake Wars — and returned for Season 9 of the series in 2013, when their cupcakes took home the championship.

In 2014, Hermes and Parker opened their first storefront, Frost Me Gourmet, in Seaport Village. Buoyed by its success, the partners crafted the second location for Little Italy which will offer its popular sweets and pastries along with savory dishes and coffee, craft beer, and wine.

At the 1,580-square-foot cafe, which includes an outdoor patio, head pastry chef Hermes will offer a rotating variety of cupcakes, cake truffles, tarts, pies, and custom cakes. Dessert options will also include butterscotch custard, seasonal fruit crumble, and scratch-made ice cream as well as an array of gluten-free and vegan sweet treats.

The all-day menu features morning pastries, including croissants and cinnamon rolls, toast topped with ricotta and orange marmalade or smoked trout, cream cheese, and capers, and daily flavors of French quiche and galettes. The European-styled eats also include Italian sandwiches on locally-baked Prager Brothers bread, salads, and cheese and charcuterie boards.

Frost Me Café & Bakery will also be the only spot in San Diego to serve San Francisco’s award-winning Ritual Coffee Roasters. It will also pour draft beer and a large selection of wines by the glass.
