Don’t Worry, Din Tai Fung Is Still Opening at UTC

The dumpling palace should arrive this summer

Eater readers have been asking for another update on the arrival of Din Tai Fung to Westfield UTC. Announced last January to join the impressive lineup of new eateries headed to the lavishly remodeled shopping center, the restaurant was founded in Taiwan and draws crowds to its locations around the globe for its traditional specialities, the most famous of which are its juicy, thin-skinned soup dumplings.

A rep for the company says the UTC outpost is scheduled for a mid-2018 opening; we’re hearing that it will likely be late summer. It will follow the first wave of openings, including Shake Shack, Sweetfin Poke, True Food Kitchen, and The Winery, with more debuting throughout the spring, from a kiosk from Liberty Public Market’s Parana Empanadas and another location of Great Maple to a spirits shop and cocktail bar from prolific local hospitality group CH Projects.

Din Tai Fung will be located in an area of the mall near The Pointe, its new restaurant row. Overlooking La Jolla Drive, the restaurant will take up the middle floor of a three-story building that houses Westfield UTC’s concierge offices on the ground floor and commercial real estate company CBRE on the top floor.
